The Sunthorn Phu Monument is the monument established for Sunthorn Phu, the great poet of the Early Rattanakosin Period. The monument was opened on 25 May,1970. The area is 8.5 km2. The statue portrayed that Sunthorn Phu was composing a poem in front of a big pond. Behind the statue of Sunthorn Phu, there was a statue of the male protagonist, Phra Apai Mani, playing the flute, along with the female mermaid and the female giant, Nang Phisuea Samut, who was reaching to Phra Apai Mani. The Sunthorn Phu Monument is the first and the only monument dedicated for a poet in Thailand. The statue was standing next to Laem Mae Phim for 5 km. The monument was established in recognition of Sunthorn Phu. On 26th of July, there will be a ceremony, exhibition, and performance regarding his great work. Moreover, there are several street foods and shops for tourists. It is one of the great events in Rayong Province.
